ABOUT AHMET ERDEM ANADOLU LISESI, BURSA TURKEY

Ahmet Erdem Anadolu Lisesi, is a public school, situated in the west part of the city of Bursa, which is described as the urban region. A four-year-high school, Ahmet Erdem Anadolu Lisesi serves nearly 850 students in grades 9 through 12 and ages 14 to 18 and 50 teachers work actively at school. Located in an advantaged area in many ways, the school has many facilities inside and outside and transport to and from school is quite easy.

The staff has the experience thanks to the Comenius projects and student exchange programmes and sister school projects. The students regularly participate in the scientific projects and competitions in the region and country. There is a large group of students taking the world college exams and having their education abroad.

Through our survey, done at school, we identified the need to improve our students and teachers’ skills continuously so that they will be able to continue their studies, to get better jobs, to live a healthy life, to militate actively to the protection of the environment and social rights.

The duty of administrators and staff at school is to allow especially the students, who are disadvantaged for socio-economic reasons, to make use of school facilities, such as IT any time they need and make them participate in the scientific and social activities actively as we did in the previous Comenius projects. What makes our school unique is that we try to supply a fund that provides money for the students who have lower socio-economic conditions. The students from ethnic or minority groups at school are always motivated by the administrators, staff and even the principal to join and take part of on-going literal, scientific, mathematical, musical, sports and art projects as we strongly believe that all activities and projects intend to create a qualified school atmosphere. The students with special talents and who get success in sports and musical activities and completions throughout the city and the country usually awarded with cups and special prizes by the authorities. At school students’ lives are enriched in countless ways. The school has co-curricular activities to cater to students’ talents and interests. All students are encouraged to take part inthese activities which assist students in achieving their educational and personal goals. These activities are organized by a wide variety of clubs where students will join, learn and practise many activities in art, sports, music and science. A wide variety of excursions is arranged to historical and touristy cities in Turkiye and daily visits to theatres, cinemas and conferences at Uludag University in Bursa and the leading universities in different regions of Turkiye. Summer courses abroad are also available. The majority of students continue their education at leading universities in Turkiye. In the University Exam, students have nearly a 100 % success level. School allows students to get an upper intermediate and advanced level of English. German is also taught as a second foreign language. Before students have graduatedfrom school, they are encouraged to take exams like CAE, FCE, ESOL, IELTS and TOEFL.

We have also cooperation contracts with schools in Europe, Canada and the USA. All departments at school work together with each other and European partner schools in different projects. We offer all the students in our school the possibility to take part in an examination for Cambridge certificates too.
